Mr. Book just finished Justice For Sale: How The Far Right Stole The Supreme Court and also Supreme Crisis At The Court: Why Americans Have Lost Confidence, both by David Balog.
Since both of these were on the same topic, by the same author and were both very short, for the first time, I have decided to write one review covering two books.
First I read Justice For Sale. It’s just a tirade against the Supreme Court, both current and modern. That’s definitely my kind of book. But, the problem here is execution. This book is way too short and is in desperate need of an editor. It reads like it’s just the ramblings of someone who just wants to scream about the subject. At that point, I determined that if the other book was just like this one, they will both be getting a C.
Then, Supreme Court is essentially the same exact book with the chapters put into different order. If you’re going to write two extremely short books, at least put in the effort to make the second one it’s own separate book. I was tempted to lower the grade to D, but the author’s complete laziness made me decide to give the books an F instead.
Goodreads requires grades on a 1-5 star system. In my personal conversion system, an F equates to 1 stars. (A or A+: 5 stars, B+: 4 stars, B: 3 stars, C: 2 stars, D or F: 1 star).
This review has been posted at my blog, Mr. Book’s Book Reviews, and Goodreads.
Mr. Book originally finished reading this on July 2, 2024.
